Doctor of Education –                      Educational Leadership (Ed.D)

Earn a terminal degree that prepares educational leaders to manage change

Earning a Doctor of Education degree from Frostburg State University equips you to assume a leadership role in your chosen area of specialization, to be that administrator, supervisor, master teacher, policy specialist or something else. This applied doctoral degree is rooted in practical experiences, exploration of case studies, problem-based learning activities and an integrated practicum. The educational leadership doctorate program is offered in alternate years on the Frostburg State University campus (even years) and the University System of Maryland at Hagerstown (odd years).

  • Attend two Ed.D. classes one evening per week to accommodate the schedules of working educational practitioners.
  • Begin Doctor of Education classes in the summer session as part of a cohort of no more than 25 students.
  • Take two years of Ed.D. classes with a practicum and dissertation undertaken in the third year.

  • Choose from four areas of doctoral program specializations: PK12 Leadership, Educational Instructional Technology, Curriculum and Instruction or Higher Education Leadership.

  • Attend class in a small cohort of Ed.D. students that are led by experts in their field and allows maximum interaction and encourages forming strong peer and mentor relationships.
  • Receive individual advising on your Ed.D. dissertation and selection of your practicum experience.

Doctor of Education Courses You May Take:

Applying Theory and Research to Practice – Focus on integration of program content into the selection, design and use of research techniques appropriate to the individual’s dissertation study.

Organizational Change and Leadership Theory – Complete a review of major organizational theorists as background to focus on change theory and organizational renewal and transformation from the educational leader’s role. The role of vision and mission processes will be developed.

Educational Assessment – Explore strategies, skills and techniques of assessing instruction, programs, systems and institutions, as appropriate to candidate career needs.
